Since conflict in neighbouring Palestine and Israel spilled over into Lebanon in September of this year, an estimated 1.3 million people have been displaced and upwards of 3,000 have been killed. Faced with a growing number of refugees, and winter just around the corner, Lebanon is currently undergoing a severe humanitarian crisis. It is in light of such harrowing news that Photographers for Lebanon have partnered with French-Lebanese non-profit Mon Liban d’Azur to raise money for affected populations with a new online print sale.
Led by photographers Emma Zahouani Burlet, Marguerite Bornhauser, Lara Tabet, and Randa Mirza, and exhibition curator and art historian Yasmine Chemali, the Photographers for Lebanon team have gathered works from over 100 image-makers to sell. Images range from environmental photography to portraits and depictions of everyday life in the MENA region and beyond, and a full selection can be found here.
All funds will be donated to non-profit and cultural hub Mon Liban d’Azur, who have worked extensively in the region. Members of the charity are currently involved in efforts on the ground to distribute aid and support to those affected by the ongoing violence, and are also key supporters of volunteer kitchen La cuisine de Mariamwhich has been providing upwards of 3,000 hot meals per day since the crisis began.
The print sale will be accompanied by a pop-up exhibition at Paris’ Espace Joséphine this Thursday (November 14), supported by MENA art collective Menart Friends. The exhibition will feature each of the extensive collection of prints on sale, and will also give attendees a chance to meet some of the photographers who have contributed their work.
Each print costs €150, which equates to the donation of either 50 hot meals, 11 mattresses, 40 pillows, or 18 baby kits, to affected populations. The sale runs until November 25.
