Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory was released from prison earlier this week, but he still faces a few hurdles in his pursuit of true freedom.
Once Big Meech completes his sentence in a Residential Reentry Center, or halfway house, he will enter a five-year supervised release, which includes participation in a substance abuse program, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.
It’s unclear if Flenory would need to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
In a statement to Complex, Flenory’s attorney Brittany K. Barnett said she was “overjoyed” by the news of his release and looking forward to her client starting a new chapter of his life.
“Two decades is an incredibly long time, and it’s been inspiring to witness the power of hop and resilience,” Barnett said. “He used his time in prison to focus on personal growth and transformation, and now he has the opportunity to begin a new chapter.”
Back in March, Big Meech’s son, Lil Meech, said he “can’t wait” for his father to be released from prison, and that the family might throw the biggest party ever in his honor.
“Yes, he just got granted a new two-point reduction,” he said when asked about his father’s release during a red carpet event. “I can’t wait. I don’t know. Hopefully, we have the biggest party ever, but we definitely want to make up that time that we missed together. We missed a lot of time growing up. You know I miss my father growing up.”
Flenory was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2008 following a conviction for drug trafficking and money laundering through his BMF organization. A judge reduced his sentence by three years earlier this year.
His projected release date is January 27, 2026.
