Every year, we love seeing how the holiday decor trends we know and love make a comeback, often with a twist.
Whether it’s a refreshing look at traditional motifs or a new color combo, making our mood boards and thinking about our own decor choices is almost as fun as the actual decorating.
We decided to check in with a few design and holiday decor pros for their takes, and we loved finding out exactly what trends are in store for the upcoming season.
A Mix of New Metals
According to Kelsey Fischer, the lead designer of Havenly and The Inside, this year will mark the shift from gold and antique brass to more silver and chrome.
She’s especially predicting these metallic hues alongside our beloved holiday colors, like emerald gold, ruby red, and deep, royal blues and purples.
“I just love the change up,” Fischer says. “Seeing jewel tones and more silver is putting me in the holiday spirit.”
Samantha Stathis, Marshalls and TJ Maxx home style expert, says she’s also noticing a festive change in metallics this year, but she’s seeing copper, too.
“Bringing in copper accents and touches of metallic are my favorite ways to elevate a space for the season,” she says.

A Maximalist Approach, Inside and Out
For anyone who loves to go all out this time of year, interior designer Melissa Oholendt assures us maximalism is still very much in—she says it’s even spreading to the outdoors this season.
“Grandma’s Santa Cookie plates? Yes, please! Vintage glass ornaments on the tree? Perfect. A stair banister drapery in layers and layers of lush greenery with ribbons tied into bows? Into it,” Oholendt says.
Design Tip
If you’re not sure where to start with your outdoor decor, Oholendt suggests decorating your outdoor trees with oversized ornaments wrapped in string lights for a truly magical feel.
Holiday Decor Meets Coastal Farmhouse
If you’re a fan of the coastal farmhouse aesthetic in your everyday life or prefer a more minimalist approach to the holidays, then Fischer has great news for you. This year, the look is inching into holiday decor.
Fischer notes that the main elements of this look are white and ivory paired with natural textures and hints of evergreen.
“The pattern is a classic stripe, the cutlery is timeless brass, the tapers are white, and the furniture is natural wood,” Fischer says.
While you can work this theme into any room, Fischer says she loves it for a holiday table. Wooden charger plates and serverware, linen napkins, and fresh florals bring the look to life, she says.
Deeper, Moodier Palettes
If you’re not eager to incorporate a minimalistic feel to your holiday decor, Stathis tells us you don’t have to go with bright green or saturated red, either. This year, deeper, more subtle hues are taking the stage.
“A play on the classics, expect to see rich burgundies, muddy greens, and soft blues at the forefront of the holiday season,” Stathis says.
Best of all, this can be enhanced with throw pillows, vases, and wall art that can last past the holidays and create a cozier space for the entire winter season.
Gift Wrap as Decor

Whether you love a well-curated Christmas morning or you collect gifts under the tree throughout the season, Oholendt loves the idea of coordinated gift wrap that doubles as decor.
“Every year, I find myself choosing four or five different wrapping papers, ribbons, and tags that all coordinate (but don’t match) and wrapping presents with glee,” she says.
